Wearing Jumper

The next pattern in the series of designs featured in the book, Langsoond, A Shetland Yarn: 10 Modern Knitting Patterns Inspired by my Island Life is the Wearing Jumper.

The Wearing Jumper, as the name suggests, is a very wearable garment, suitable for everyday use. It is often desirable to have an item of clothing that is easy to pull on and off as required, as well as being a comfortable shape to wear and work in, and this jumper fits those criteria.

The length of the body is designed so the hem sits on the mid-hip; you can work the body straight or work the optional waist shaping to give a very gentle shape to the garment.

The body and sleeves are knitted separately in the round, then joined to work the yoke. Decreases are made to create the raglan shaping – to give a snug fit around the shoulders, the slope of each ‘seam’ is shaped rather than being straight.

The jumper is designed to be worn with slight negative or minimal ease, depending on your preference. Here I am wearing a size 2 with waist shaping and 4cm (1.5in) negative ease but it works equally as well when worn with 10-15cm (4-6in) positive ease.

The pattern is in 9 sizes, to fit bust approx 74cm (29.25in) up to 167cm (65.75in). When choosing your size, I would recommend going with the finished bust circumference and comparing this with a cardigan or jumper you already own you have so will get an idea of fit.
