Maijie’s Cowl

£4.00

This cosy cowl is a relatively straight forward pattern using a repetitive vine trellis lace pattern knitted in the round so there is very limited finishing. It uses one skein of Langsoond yarn, spun from the fleece of Shetland sheep from friends and neighbours and includes our own flock. The cowl is named after Maijie’s Crub, a walled enclosure on the croft where we separate the new lambs and their mums for a few days when they are newly born. The crub overlooks Langsound (the strip of water running up the east coast of Burra Isle that the yarn is named after).

The pattern gives both charted and written instructions.

The quantity of each batch is limited but the following yarns can be used as an alternative for this pattern:

Uradale Yarns Double Knit Organic undyed yarn
Uradale Double Knit Weight Organic Yarn
Blacker British Classic Double Knitting Yarn

Pattern Details:

Size: Actual size: 30cm (11.75in) wide x 25cm (9.75in) deep (when measured flat)

Gauge: 22 sts and 27 rounds over 10cm (4in) in the round. Please note you must swatch in the round as the instructions do not work for flat knitting!

Yarn: Langsoond Double Knitting (100% Shetland Wool; 220m(238yds)/100g skein); Shade Lintie x 1 skein [actual quantity 92g; 202m (221yds)]

Needles and Notions: Set of 3 or more long DPNs or 60cm circular needle in size to achieve correct gauge. This sample was knitted using 4.0mm (UK 8/US 6) needles.
